THE tRUST IS NAMED AFTER THE First Follower of Jesus Christ of Chotanagpur

Baptized on June 9, 1850

Known as 'the Father of Faith for All Believers in Chotanagpur'. In early 1850 when Navin Doman read a pamphlet about Jesus Christ being the saviour of the world and risen and living Lord, he wanted to see Jesus. Navin Doman thought if Jesus was alive he should be able to see him.  He was asked to take baptism but he insisted that he wanted to see Jesus first. During a prayer, he had a vision of risen Jesus and he became the first follower of Jesus Christ in Chottanagpur. He made many more disciples by sharing the Good News and serving the communities in Jesus name.  Soon after his baptism, Navin Doman faced intense persecution. Once he was captured and was threatened to be killed. Upon this, Navin Doman made the following extraordinary confession.

"You can kill me but know this that from every drop of blood from my body will arise thousands of believers."

On 9th June every year, in his village Hethakota (near Ranchi), believers come together to remember Navin Doman Tirkey, the Father of Faith for all believers in Chottanagpur and to celebrate his exemplary faith in Jesus Christ. May his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and his life of witness and service inspire present day disciples of Jesus Christ.

Our Story

In Chottanagpur, the indigenous communities have particularly been touched by special and amazing Good News of Jesus Christ. Many of them believe that God has blessed them as Oraon-Christians with a unique identity, culture, and language on the one hand and with spiritual and material blessings on the other. They are deeply rooted in their faith and committed to sharing the love of Christ with their neighbors to be blessings for their well being and abundant life. Over the years, a growing circle of believers, educators, and community leaders felt called to formalize this shared vision into organized ministry. Many of these friends came together which led to the formation and registration of Navin Doman Trust in January of 2025.
